White Oak (Quercus alba) also known as American White Oak.. It come in at 1350 on the Janka Hardness.
Heartwood is a light to medium brown, commonly with an olive cast. Paler sapwood is not always sharply demarcated from the heartwood. Quartersawn sections display prominent ray fleck patterns.
In terms of its rot resistance it is rated as very durable; frequently used in boatbuilding and tight cooperage applications. For outside projects it does not get much better then White Oak.
In the last few years White Oak has been sought after for its beauty not so much its utility which has caused the price of White Oak to increase significantly. Once not much more then its relative Red Oak, White Oak now sits not far from Black Walnut for one of the costliest domestic wood on the market.
Stocked in 4/4 and 8/4 available in 5/4 and 6/4 by order.
