Red Oak (Quercus rubra) also known as Northern Red Oak and American Red Oak. Found in the South Eastern regains of Canada and the North Eastern regions of the Unite States. It comes in at 1220 on the Jenka hardness scale.
Heartwood is a light to medium brown, commonly with a reddish cast. Paler sapwood is not always sharply demarcated from the heartwood. Quartersawn sections display prominent ray fleck patterns.
Red Oak machines well with both hand and machine tools.
