Black Cherry

CA$0.00

Black Cherry (Prunus serotinaor) sometimes refired to as American Cherry. Black Cherry is found in Eastern North America including many parts in Ontario.

Black Cherry runs at about 950 lbs on the Janka scale.

Heartwood is a light pinkish brown when freshly cut, darkening to a medium reddish brown with time and upon exposure to light. Wide sapwood is a pale yellowish color. It is not uncommon for boards to contain at least some sapwood portions along the outer edges.

Heartwood is rated as being very durable and resistant to decay, though not typically used in exterior applications.

Black Cherry is probably the most underrated Hardwood in woodworking today. I have no idea why this wood is not more popular. Priced reasonable for a Hardwood, works exceptionally well and ages nicer then any wood in my opinion. It is my favorite wood to use when woodworking.
