Taking the Sawmill mobile

Well after many, many hours over the coarse of a few months of weighing the pros and cons of deciding to take the sawmill on the road or to continue to just offer sawing services at our location we have deiced to take the mill on the road. This was a big decision for us here. This means more time away from the base location where we sell hardwood and offer milling services. And since I work alone this mean that location will be closed when we are on the road sawing. This however ever is not a huge change for our customers since I still work out and most of my customers know I am open by appointment. I do feel however that in order to grow the business out where we are it will be important to have the shop open regular hrs. Hopefully this will be an option when I retiree from my full time job. The other reason that gave me some pause to offer portable sawing service is the fact that the saw will have to be left out in the elements when I am sawing. The sawmill was always kept in my shed were I simply opened the door and I was ready to saw, pretty sweet. The saw was not taken a beating running the road and the sun and the weather were not effecting the condition of the mill. The fact is however that it proved very hard to get people to bring logs to me to be sawn. The saw was not getting a chance to work as much as I wanted to see. So we have decided to go to the logs. Hopefully this will increase our work with the saw and get our name out there a bit and let people know what we do. Wish us luck!
